A United States Air Force (USAF) official who spoke about a simulation where an artificial intelligence (AI) drone killed its human operator later said he misspoke and that the simulation never really happened, but online posts continued to share the story after the clarification. In May, Tucker “Cinco” Hamilton, the USAF chief of AI Test and Operations, spoke at the Future Combat Air & Space Capabilities Summit hosted by the UK’s Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) in London (here). The system started realising that while they did identify the threat at times the human operator would tell it not to kill that threat, but it got its points by killing that threat. Musk has signaled an interest in rolling back many of Twitter’s previous rules meant to combat misinformation, most recently by abandoning enforcement of its COVID-19 misinformation policy. He already reinstated some high-profile accounts that had violated Twitter’s content rules and had promised a “general amnesty” restoring most suspended accounts starting this week. Along with European regulators, Musk risks running afoul of Apple and Google, which power most of the world’s smartphones. Meanwhile, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen walked back her statements about whether Musk’s purchase of Twitter warrants government review. She declined to confirm whether CFIUS is currently investigating Musk’s Twitter purchase.

Twitter has “huge work ahead” to meet its obligations under the Digital Services Act, Europe’s new platform regulation, said Thierry Breton, the EU’s digital chief, in a readout of his meeting with Musk. In addition to EU scrutiny, Musk’s Twitter could also face additional pressure at home. Yellen added that it could be appropriate for the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to review Musk’s Twitter takeover.

CNN —Matthew Perry is now saying he misspoke in his new memoir. There was backlash after outlets shared an excerpt from his forthcoming memoir, “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing” in which Perry talks about the 1993 death of his friend actor River Phoenix and references another actor, Keanu Reeves. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down,” Perry wrote. “Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”Perry is now apologizing. I should have used my own name instead.”CNN has reached out to Perry and Reeves for comment.
